WATER SUPPLY SERVICES
According to the Water Supply and Sanitation Act No. 5 of 2019,
RUWASA is mandated to ensure rural communities in Tanzania mainland have access
to clean and safe water supply services. Furthermore, RUWASA is also obligated
to provide water services to all areas declared by the Minister responsible for
water services.
Water services in rural areas are managed and operated by CBWSOs
under supervision of RUWASA at the District level. In order to ensure
sustainability of water supply services, CBWSOs collect water charges from
communities as discussed and agreed in respective organs.
Moreover, CBWSO is responsible in making maintenance of the
project so as to assure community with access to clean and safe water supply on
a daily basis.
SANITATION SERVICES
RUWASA in collaboration with the Ministries responsible for
Health, Education and PO-RALG have responsibilities to ensure sanitation
services are well observed and practiced in rural areas. RUWASA therefore has
to promote and sensitize rural communities on sanitation and hygiene practices
as well as the protection and conservation of rural water sources.
The Ministry of Water and RUWASA are also responsible for
providing guidelines and soliciting funds for the implementation of sanitation
services in rural areas.
