RUWASA describes success since its establishment

The Acting Director General of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) Bwai Biseko has explained the great achievements achieved since the establishment of RUWASA where he has said that until December 2022, a total of 2,273 infrastructure projects had been constructed and completed through local funds and development partiners. Biseko said this while giving information on the performance of RUWASA at the inauguration ceremony of the new Board of Directors of RUWASA held on June 27, 2023 at the PSSSF hall in Dodoma and led by Hon. Jumaa Aweso, Minister of Water. The director said the projects benefit 11,641,230 populations in 4,809 villages where during that period, the construction of seven dams was completed and a total of 947 wells were drilled.

The Acting Director said that in the period from July 2019 to September 2022, RUWASA managed to create and register 2,524 community-level Water User Organizations (CBWSOs) and have been able to hire 5,586 professionals in technical fields, accounting and support staff in order to have sustainability of services of rural water.

"Mr. Guest of Honor, as well, I would like to thank you and the leadership of the Ministry of Water for facilitating the access to funds for the implementation of RUWASA's duties, amounting to Sh. 995,638,503,970 out of Sh. 1,044,588,249,042 allocated which is equal to 95 percent of the RUWASA budget for a period of three years from the year 2019/2020 to the year 2021/2022, funds that have made it possible to achieve the achievements mentioned above" he said in his statement.

He said that in the financial year 2023/2024, RUWASA has planned to implement a total of 1,546 rural water projects involving the construction of dams to store water in various areas of the country.

Since the establishment of RUWASA, rural sanitation services have increased from 64.8 percent in 2019 to 77 percent currently, where the goal is to reach 85 percent by 2025 as directed in the Ruling Party's Notice.
